I used to wonder why we refer to Earth as “धरती माता” or “Mother Earth”. And then I witnessed this scene of cotton clouds cradled by the mountains as if to keep them from drifting off just like birds build a nest to keep their young ones from falling off. Or like our mother used to hold us close to her when we woke up horrified because of some nightmare our childish imagination had given shape to. Earth, much like a mother, is a provider, a protector. It is a shame how often we forget this when we tread all over her during the course of our lives.
